# Select your projects
  • Search for a suitable project to commence in July 2023
  • Note project codes for those you wish to apply for
  • Shortlist up to two projects
# Minimum qualification requirements
  • Master’s degree (MTech/MSc or equivalent) with at least 65% aggregate
  • Valid GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, or DST-INSPIRE score
  • OR GATE in the past 5 years and/or minimum 2 years of professional experience (if all other eligibility criteria are met)
  • Ensure you meet the requirements specified below before applying. Applications that do not provide evidence of meeting the minimum requirements will not progress further.
  • Master’s degree (MTech/MSc, or equivalent with aggregate percentage of 65% or equivalent).
  • GATE Score OR a high score in UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE.
  • Candidates without a valid GATE/ UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE score can be considered if they have undertaken GATE in the last five years AND/OR have a minimum of two years professional work experience, AND if they meet all other eligibility requirements.
# Prepare a Statement of Purpose (SOP)

You will need one Statement of Purpose for each project you are interested in applying for. Include the following in your statement:

  • One SOP per project applied for (PDF/Word, 1 page, max 500 words)
  • Describe motivation, fit with project, and how you will meet project requirements
  • Include project-specific requirements if any
  • What motivated you to apply for this project
  • Share your capabilities and how they are a great fit for this project
  • Share how you would address the requirements of the project
  • Additional requirements may be specified by the project – please review these in the project details and include in your SOP.

# Other information
  • Only submit one application form (can include two projects)
  • Secondary applications will not be considered
  • Provide study locations, dates, and scores for degrees
  • Strong academic records strengthen applications
# English language requirements
  • Refer to item 20 in the RMIT policy document
  • You should be confident you will satisfy one or more of these requirements:
    • I come from a recognized English-speaking country AND I have a qualification that was taught and assessed entirely in English
    • I am NOT from an English-speaking country, however, I have a postgraduate qualification from an accredited institution where English was the medium of instruction and assessment of study AND the final year of University study was completed during the 5 years immediately prior to this application
    • I have evidence of professional experience and/or academic publications in English, such as:
      • sustained work for two years immediately prior to commencement at RMIT in a country where English is an official language
      • authorship or co-authorship of at least two English language peer-reviewed journal articles or a book chapter written and published in English within the three years prior to commencement at RMIT

Interview Process:

1. Interview #1 – Supervisors:

  • Successful applicants will be invited to attend a first-round interview with supervisors from BITS and RMIT.
  • The interview will be conducted over Teams.
  • If successful: First-round interviewees will be invited to a second-round interview with the Selection Committee.
  • If unsuccessful: Applicants will exit the process.

2. Interview #2 – Selection Committee:

  • Attend a second interview with the Selection Committee, conducted over Teams.
  • If successful: Second-round interviewees will receive a joint congratulatory letter to progress to formal processing. This letter will contain all the details of this process.
  • Position Guarantee: Your position will only be guaranteed after successfully providing all the required documentation within the given timelines to ensure you are registered on the RMIT system.
